latest and most popular digital camera on the market today. |
Will your camera successfully work with
your optical device?
Every digital camera model has a different type
lens and focal length and optical devices like microscopes, telescopes, and
spotting scopes have different diameter eyepieces and eye relief
characteristics. Because of these two factors, the resulting images from each
unique combination will have different focal lengths at the point where no
vignetting occurs.
A very effective and simple method to determine
if vignetting is an issue with your particular camera lens and eyepiece
combination is as follows:
a. Start by setting the zoom lens to about ½ of
its optical zoom capability.
b. Place and center the camera lens as close as
possible (as close as 1/8 inch) to the eyepiece of the optical device you plan
on using. Please be very careful not to scratch the lens
of your camera or eyepiece.
c. Carefully zoom towards full telephoto being
constantly aware of the distance between your camera lens and eyepiece as
described above. (This is especially important if your lens zooms from the
camera body).
d. The degree of vignetting, if any, you view as
you zoom towards full telephoto will closely approximate what you will
experience with the LE-Adapters.
e. It should be noted that if you experience some
vignetting at full optical telephoto, it might be reduced or eliminated by
adding a minimum of digital zoom.
f. If the image you experience using this test is
unsatisfactory, we recommend you discuss the results with our technical
personnel. Contact Billbenz2@aol.com.
Notes:
Larger eyepieces offer fuller images.
Larger eyepieces decrease or eliminate
vignetting. For example cameras that experience some vignetting when attached to
the small eyepiece of most any type of scope will have no vignetting when
attached to a 2 inch eyepiece of a scope.
Minimizing the distance between the eyepiece and
the camera lens does decrease vignetting. However one does not want the camera
lens to be scratched by contacting the eyepiece. Both the Standard LE-Adapter
and the 2Plus LE-Adapter have been designed to prevent the camera lens from
contacting the eyepiece of a scope.
Cropping and other alterations can be
accomplished by digital imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel
Photopaint, or Paint Pro.

Many of the SLR-type digital cameras such as
some Nikon, Kodak or Fuji brands that accept Nikon AF Mounts will work if the
lens has a minimum focal length of 100mm.
Conventional Camcorders or Digital
Video (DV) Camcorders
Almost all camcorders on the market today have sufficient zoom capability (focal
length) to be compatible with the LE-Adapter if filter threads are present.
CCTV/SLR Cameras
See CCTV/SLR page for details.
