Sony DSC-W70 Digital Camera Review

The model DSC-W70 is one of a new Sony family of point and shoot cameras labeled DSC-W30/ W40/W50/W70 and DSC-W100. All but the DSC-W100 have a 30mm filter lens adapter to add filter threads to the body of the camera. The adapter is known as the VAD-WB and makes all four cameras compatible with LE-Adapter. The Sony VAD-WB is attached to the cameras base with a tripod screw.

The DSC-W70 camera specifications includes:

  • 7.1 Megapixel (3072X2304)
  • 3X Carl Zeiss Optical Zoom Lens/2X Digital/6X Total Zoom
  • 2.5” LCD Monitor
  • Auto Adjustment Mode
  • Selectable Focus Mode
  • 16 frame Multi Burst Mode for fast moving objects
  • MPEG Movie Mode
  • Ergonomically astute…it weighs (5.5oz)…and is (3.5”x2.25”x 0.9” )(WHD)

For Digiscopers it has a mode that is truly unique...its called “Monitoring AF”

IIn this mode you need only to press the shutter button completely down and the picture is taken instantly. No longer is there a need to wait for the camera to focus…its truly point and shoot.

For coupling the Sony DSC-W70 to either our Standard LE-Adapter (Item #11037)

or the 2 Plus LE-Adapter (Item #11237) all you need is the Sony Lens Mount VAD/WB and a 30mm to 37mm
stepup ring which can be purchased directly from Sony.com or your local camera store.

The Sony DSC-W70 is totally LE-Adapter compatible. In most application including the use of microscopes, telescopes, spotting scopes, and night vision scopes, vignetting is completely removed at approximately 2x optical zoom!!!!.

Whether your interest lies in microscopy, digiscoping digibirding, DigiHunting, or general photography I think you will find this camera will exceed your expectations.
